For our office Christmas party, we reached out to the Texican to see if they could accomodate a meal for our group of 24. They were amazing at every step of the process. Edith was so easy to communicate with on the front end and made sure we ordered exactly what we needed. Hannah, the on-site manager, made sure our order was put together correctly and that everything was hot coming out of the kitchen. We were treated so well during the whole process. We ordered both beef and chicken enchiladas with El Paso, Sour Cream, and Verde sauces and it was all a hit at the party. Everything was so well done and so tasty. There were wonderful refried beans, black beans, rice, chips, and salsa to make it a true feast, all in ample supply. They also provided all the utensils, plates, and serving spoons that we needed so that our host didn't have to worry about a thing.
I have loved the Texican for over 27 years! And their queso à la paria is one of my "must haves" when I am in Austin or nearby towns. Surface is always friendly and quick (as long as they are not super busy). The outdoor seating is covered and very pleasant as long as it is not freezing cold in the winter or over 100 in the summer. Their margaritas are also incredibly good. The Friday special is the La Morada, which is her delicious house margarita with a swirl of purple almond liquor - absolutely delicious!
The food is very good. I had the enchiladas sampler. One of the best meals in the nearby area I had so far. The atmosphere is good too. Many local restaurants feel like a cafeteria. Not this place. Service was fast and friendly.
Texican is one of our go to restaurants. We love the food, the staff, and the drinks. We usually sit at the bar, and the staff always takes such good care of us. Also, their salsa is my absolute favorite. I always get a large container to go and use it throughout the week.
Thank you to our Hostess Esmeralda for being so accommodating. We had a party of 12 at 3P on a Saturday with no reservation, and no problem. I waited at the bar while they prepared our table. Ordered a Mexican Martini and he poured it out of a premade container. Not my favorite way to enjoy a cocktail. I had to get up and get my own cocktail napkin. Bartender needs a little pep in his step. He did bring my chips and salsa (chips were still warm). Plenty of parking, easy to find. It's has an authentic vibe. Colorful... our waiter dropped the ball a couple of times, no biggy, he was pleasant enough.
By far, Texican Cafe is my favorite Tex-Mex restaurant to visit. Why, because everything is better. Chips are rich and thick and crispy. I ordered their Tortilla soup which the wait staff carefully pours the broth over the soup ingredients in the bowl and bountiful beautifully garnished with bright green avocado slices and lots of shredded white chicken. Served with cheese and pico on the side. Perfectly seasoned and an awesome 4min ticket time for this appetizer. I ordered a house salad. Fresh. The only negative is too many carrots as carrots are old school and no cheese. Would like to see chunk cheese like goat. Next up I ordered both the stuffed chicken avocados and the sour cream enchiladas. Avocados were awesome and had plenty of leftover. The sour cream enchiladas had excellent seasoned chicken and rice and beans awesome too. I try not to review drinks but if you sit at the bar, the bar tenders are the most multitasking humans on the planet and make a stiff top shelf while also handling your food order. Nice job. The waitstaff is over the top attentive and never had a bad experience. They have an outdoor patio which is nice on good weather days and have TVs.
I liked this dining experience. Lots of tables, nice music, a bar and great service. The service was fast and enthusiastic, as though the server wanted to do an excellent job. The food portions are larger than one would anticipate. I ordered green chili soup and a small salad. My guest had the Enchiladas. The soup came in a large dish. I was expecting traditional chili, but I was ok with what I ordered. It was more like a tortilla soup. It had chicken and vegetables in it and was enough to fill me up. The chips were fairly standard, but I did like the salsa. It was spicy and medium thick in its consistency. I couldn't eat the salad since I was full and brought it home. I ate that today for lunch. It was still crisp and blended well with other veggies. T A nice place to eat dinner while you relax from a day's work.
